Accra: The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has conducted a leadership training workshop aimed at enhancing the emotional intelligence of its directors and deputy directors. This initiative is part of the Ministry's efforts to boost workplace productivity and reinforce a healthy organizational culture.
According to Ghana News Agency, the workshop, themed 'Inspirational leadership through emotional intelligence,' is a segment of the Ministry's broader strategy to build leadership capacity among senior management. The event was facilitated by Mr. Jonathan Prince Cann, Managing Partner at JPCANN Associates Limited, a firm specializing in leadership training. Mr. Cann emphasized the critical differences between leadership and management, focusing on the importance of self-awareness, purposeful communication, emotional regulation, and visionary leadership.
During the workshop, Mr. Cann highlighted that true leadership extends beyond administrative duties. He encouraged participants to cultivate self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation, which are essential for building trust, inspiring teams, and maintaining performance under pressure. The workshop included reflective exercises to help participants identify their emotional triggers and improve their communication skills.
Mr. Vitus O. Langmagne, Director of Human Resources at the Tourism Ministry, praised the workshop for its level of engagement, describing it as insightful and impactful. He acknowledged Mr. Cann's dynamic presentation and stressed the importance of regular workshops to maintain staff well-being and enhance overall performance.
The Ministry is committed to ongoing staff development and sees this workshop as a strategic step toward fostering a resilient and emotionally intelligent leadership team. Mr. Langmagne noted that such training sessions would be conducted frequently to aid in the organization's growth and development.
