Dr Kpeglo-Freiku Chairs New Governing Council of Akatsi College of Education

Accra: Dr Cynthia Sena Kpeglo-Freiku, the Executive Secretary of Vice Chancellors Ghana, has been appointed as the new Council Chair for Akatsi College of Education (Akatsico). She pledged her dedication and commitment to collaborate with the Management of the College and to support initiatives that would expand and enhance the image of the College 'as an establishment of excellence.'

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Kpeglo-Freiku made these remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of a 13-member Governing Council of the College, officiated by Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education. In a statement copied to the agency, Dr Kpeglo-Freiku described the appointment as an honour and a call to duty.

The statement highlighted Dr Kpeglo-Freiku's extensive qualifications, including a B.A. Hons, Dip. Ed. MPhil, Ph.D., FChPA, and FCMC. She is a Professional Administrator, an Educational Leadership and Administration expert, a Management Consultant, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants (CIAMC). Additionally, she is a member of the Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD) and was the immediate past Registrar of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho.

The Council Members include Dr Felix Kwame Kumedzro, the College Principal, Dr Alfred Dorgbetor, academic staff, Mr Katabo Israel Kwabla, Student Representative Council, Mr Ferguson Akey, Representative of the Ghana Education Service, Mr Joseph Amoakoh Appenteng, GTEC, Mr Bernard Selasi Dzomeku, NTC, and Mr Conrad Kofi Atakora, representing the non-teaching staff. Other members are Professor Benedict Osei-Owusu, Affiliate University, and Mr Edmund Senam Kwame Agbadza, representing the alumni. The Council also features three government nominees: Mr Tornyeava Sylvester Edah, Ms Fafa Peace Bancas, and Ms Akua Dzimega.

The Akatsi College of Education was first established as the Akatsi Training College on October 1, 1963, and was officially opened on October 25, 1963, with 42 all-male students and four teaching staff, including the principal.
