Three Needy Tertiary Students Receive Support from Connexional Guild

Winneba: The Winneba Methodist Diocesan Synod Secretary, Very Rev Charles Sam, has emphasized the transformative power of education, urging that it should shape individuals with sound character to contribute positively to society. He noted that education should not solely be viewed as a means to acquire knowledge for securing white-collar employment.

According to Ghana News Agency, Very Rev Sam made these comments while presenting scholarships awarded by the Connexional Methodist Guild to three needy but academically gifted students in tertiary institutions. The ceremony took place at St Paul Methodist Church in Winneba, within the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region.

The scholarship recipients, each receiving a cheque for three thousand Ghana Cedis, included Mr. Emmanuel Eshun, a Level 200 student pursuing a B-Tech in Finance and Accounting at Cape Coast Technical University, Miss Josephine Owusu Ankomah, a Bachelor of Arts in Population and Health Level 100 student at the University of Cape Coast, and Mr. Shadrack Yeboah, a Level 100 student at UCC pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science. Notably, Mr. Yeboah is an orphan from the Raffiki Orphanage at Gyahadze near Winneba.

Very Rev Sam encouraged the awardees to see the scholarship as a challenge to excel academically, ensuring that the support from the Methodist Guild yields fruitful results. He praised the Connexional Guild for their initiative in supporting education, which he believes will help reduce illiteracy levels in Ghana.

The Connexional Vice Chairman of the Methodist Guild, Mr. Emmanuel Panyin Eshun, highlighted that the scholarship scheme, initiated a decade ago, has sponsored 44 brilliant but needy students from the Gyahadze Home. The organization has invested over GHC150,000 in beneficiaries, excluding those awarded in Winneba.

Mr. Eshun reiterated the Guild's commitment to education, viewing it as a valuable legacy to pass on. He mentioned plans to expand the scholarship program as financial resources increase.

On behalf of the recipients, Mr. Yeboah expressed gratitude to the Connexional Guild for their financial support, promising that they would strive to excel and inspire others to follow their path.
