Special Voting in Essikado-Ketan: Political Parties and Observers Monitor Process.

Essikado-Ketan: Some 286 voters are expected to cast their ballot in the special voting exercise currently underway at Essikado-Ketan Constituency in the Western Region. At the tick of 0700 hours, the process began with the first voter going through the process without any verification hitches.

According to Ghana News Agency, party agents from the New Force, National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), and ECOWAS observers are actively monitoring the process. They underscored the constituency’s political significance and stakeholders’ commitment to entrenching electoral transparency.

More than 5000 voters are expected to undergo the process from 0700 hours to 1700 hours, ensuring a comprehensive participation. Mr. Stephen Frimpong, the Essikado-Ketan District EC officer, confirmed that all materials arrived on time at the Brigade Hall of the Methodist Church, facilitating a smooth commencement of the voting exercise.

Essikado-Ketan has
historically been an NPP stronghold, with Joe Ghartey holding the parliamentary seat since 2004. However, the constituency experienced swift competition from the NDC, especially in the 2020 elections, where Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah narrowed the vote gap significantly. For the 2024 general election, Charles Bissue is the NPP candidate, seeking to maintain the party’s dominance, while Dr. Danquah represents the NDC in a renewed bid for the seat.
