Accra: The Shama District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised an educational tour of state institutions for Civic Education Clubs in three selected basic schools within the District. This initiative aimed to familiarize students with state institutions and their mandates as outlined in the 1992 Constitution.

According to Ghana News Agency, the participating schools included Shama Catholic Junior High School (JHS), Shama Model JHS, and Shama Methodist JHS. The students visited several key institutions within the district, including the Shama District Court, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the National Ambulance Service, and the Ghana Police Service.

At the District Court, students learned about the functions of the three arms of government: the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary. They were also educated on the types of courts, their leadership, court proceedings, and specific cases handled by each court. Mrs. Patience Ashami Ablorh, the Shama District Court Judge, advised students to avoid behaviors that could negatively impact their future success and responsibilities.

During their visit to the Shama GNFS Station, Mr. Emmanuel Bonney, the District Fire Officer, explained the service's main mandates and their operational duties during fire incidents. He also provided guidelines on proactive measures to prevent loss of lives and property during fires.

Mr. Prosper Kuuporo Maar, Shama District Director for the Ghana Ambulance Service, educated the students on providing first aid during emergencies. Meanwhile, officials from the Shama District Police Command discussed their mandates and the strategies employed to ensure community safety and security.

Ms. Grace Ahenakwah, Officer-In-Charge of Shama District NCCE, highlighted that the tour aimed to familiarize students with the roles and responsibilities of state institutions, thereby preparing them for active citizenship and nation-building.
