Bawku: Akuafo Nketewa Company Limited, a subsidiary of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), has donated food items to final-year students of the Bawku Senior High School (SHS) and the Bawku Senior High Technical School to support them in their ongoing examination.
According to Ghana News Agency, at separate ceremonies for the donation, each of the schools received 25 fifty-kilogram bags of maize, 25 fifty-kilogram bags of rice, 10 fifty-kilogram bags of beans, and 10 gallons of 10-litre cooking oil. The donation formed part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and aimed at supporting candidates preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) amidst challenges posed by the protracted Bawku conflict.
In a speech delivered by Mr. Charles Adakudugu Abugri on behalf of Dr. Charles Kwowe Nyaaba, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, the gesture was described as an effort not only to support the schools but also to call for peace in Bawku and the region. He noted that the conflict in the area had greatly affected business operations, disrupted farming activities, and disturbed academic work.
Reverend Abugbila Bukari, the Headmaster of Bawku SHS, expressed appreciation for the support, describing the donation as a timely intervention that would serve as a buffer for the school. He further appealed to the company to consider partnering the school in sorghum production, given the availability of arable land.
On behalf of the students, Master Eric Kolan, the Bawku SHS Senior Prefect, expressed gratitude, noting that the donation was not only about food but also a show of solidarity for the recent loss of a colleague.
At the Bawku Senior High Technical School, Mr. Bukari Abdulai, the Headteacher, described the donation as a booster to the school's food stock, especially as the final-year students prepare for their exams. Miss Abigail Ayine Akolgo, the Girls' Prefect, also thanked the company for the gesture, expressing motivation and inspiration to take their studies seriously.
The Akuafo Nketewa Company Limited operates across Bawku, Pusiga, Tempane, Garu, Zebilla, Binduri, and other districts in Northern Ghana, supporting farmers with inputs, mechanisation, and access to market.
