Accra: Fathers have been advised to serve as role models and demonstrate positive characters, which their children can emulate to make them better citizens of society. Deacon Isaac Ahama of the Calvary Baptist Mission in Accra gave the advice to commemorate Father's Day celebrated around the world on the second Sunday in June.According to Ghana News Agency, in a sermon titled 'Empowered by Love: The Father's Gift to His Children,' Deacon Ahama said offering wisdom or good counselling to children contributed to nurturing and guiding them to become useful to their families while supporting national development. He emphasized the importance of fathers showing unconditional love to their children, similar to how God demonstrated love through His Son Jesus Christ, even in times of sinfulness.Deacon Ahama urged fathers to support their children with a sense of security and acceptance, especially during times when they may be stubborn or unlovable. He highlighted that fostering confidence, self-esteem, and resil ience boosts the morale of children, whether they are biological or adopted, and helps them achieve great things.Father's Day has its origins dating back to July 1908, when a Church in Virginia hosted the first event to honor fathers. The Church dedicated the sermon to the 362 men who died in an explosion at the Fairmont Coal Company Mines in Monongah that December.
