Accra: A 19-year-old scrap dealer, Kwaku Issahaku, has appeared before the Adabraka District Court on charges of stealing items from the SIC yard located in the South Industrial Area branch.
According to Ghana News Agency, Issahaku is accused of unlawfully entering the premises and stealing a one-door unit air conditioner valued at GHC4,000, a Hyundai Santafe bumper valued at GHC800, and a Hyundai Santafe door valued at GHC1,000. Despite the charges, Issahaku has pleaded not guilty.
The accused explained to the police that he had scaled the wall of the SIC yard on September 27, 2025, with the intention of collecting firewood. The court, however, has granted him bail set at GHC5,000, requiring two sureties.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, detailed the events leading to the arrest. The complainant in the case is the System Administrator of a security firm located in North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, and Issahaku is a resident of Konkomba, Accra.
On the evening of September 27, 2025, a witness named Sakibu Fataw, employed as a private security guard by Lions Security Company, was on duty at the SIC, South Industrial Area. Around 5:30 pm, Fataw heard an unusual noise from the yard and went to investigate.
The security guard discovered Issahaku carrying the stolen items, which included the air conditioner, Hyundai Santafe door, and bumper, all belonging to SIC. The accused was promptly arrested with the items and taken to the Kaneshie Police Station.
During subsequent investigations, Issahaku admitted to the offence, reiterating his claim that he had scaled the company’s fence wall in search of firewood.
