Resilient City Project Empowers Vulnerable Girls in Sunyani Municipality with Industrial Machines

Sunyani: The Resilient City for Adolescents Project (RCA) has made a significant contribution to the futures of young girls in the Sunyani Municipality by presenting them with industrial machines and accessories. The initiative aims to provide these vulnerable adolescents, aged between 17 and 21, with tools and skills to engage in fashion design, thereby helping them secure decent employment opportunities.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Global Media Foundation (GloMef), a Sunyani-based human rights and media advocacy Non-Governmental Organisation, alongside other primary partners, is spearheading the RCA project. This initiative, funded by the Swiss Botnar Fondation, is a three-year effort targeting direct benefits for about 1,500 adolescents, while an additional 3,000 are expected to experience its positive impacts.

The project, supported by a £300,000 grant from the Botnar Fondation, is implemented by GloMeF in collaboration with the Indigenous Women Empowerment Network and Citizens Watch Ghana. The goal is to equip the youth in Sunyani East and West Municipalities to become active citizens with a role in social, political, and economic spheres.

Mr. Ahenu, a representative of the project, highlighted the significant impact the initiative is having on vulnerable young people, particularly in enhancing access to quality healthcare, education, and social services. The RCA project is actively addressing challenges such as teenage pregnancy, smoking, drug abuse, and mental health issues through its health and digital clinic center.

During a presentation ceremony at Abesim, near Sunyani, Mr. Ahenu revealed that the project had allocated GHC250,000 for employable skills training in various fields including soap making, fashion design, pastries, hairdressing, and body makeups for marginalized girls. He urged the beneficiaries to engage earnestly in their training, emphasizing the project's commitment to improving their socio-economic livelihoods.

Mr. Ahenu also encouraged the young girls to steer clear of unhealthy lifestyles and negative influences, asserting that their dedication to the training would motivate the NGO and its partners to extend similar support to others.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms. Jennifer Mawuena expressed gratitude towards GloMef and its partners, promising to make the most of the assistance provided to ensure it yields long-term benefits.
