President Mahama Inaugurates 120-Day Social Contract Task Force

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, February 11, inaugurated the 120 Days Social Contract Task Force under the Chairmanship of Dr Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs. The 19-member task force is tasked with ensuring that the social contract policies outlined in the NDC Manifesto for the December 7 general election are fulfilled within the first 120 days of President Mahama's term.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Social Contract Team includes Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Finance Minister; Mr John Abu Jinapor, Energy Minister; Madam Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry; Dr Dominic Akurutinga Ayine, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice; and Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Education Minister. Other members are Madam Dzifa Abla Gomashie, Minister of Tourism; Mr George Opare Addo, Minister of Youth Development; Madam Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection; Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health; and Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment.

The team is further composed of Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources; Mr Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; Mr Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy; Mr Prosper Bani, National Security Adviser; Commissioner of Police (COP) Kofi Boakye (rtd), Director of Operations at the Presidency; Mr Francis Dodoo, Presidential Adviser; and Mrs Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Adviser and Special Aide to the President.

President Mahama highlighted the importance of the task force, noting that the party had entered a social contract with the people of Ghana upon winning the election. Due to the sectoral nature of the objectives, the inauguration of the team followed the swearing-in of the ministers. The task force aims to achieve some targets within 90 days, while others have a 14-day deadline. A promise to assemble a full cabinet within 14 days has already been fulfilled.

President Mahama emphasized the need for the task force to focus on sector-specific goals to ensure the government meets its objectives, including tax measures that require parliamentary procedures. He urged the members, referred to as the G120, to work closely with Dr Sawyerr and remain faithful to their mandate.

Dr Valerie Sawyerr expressed gratitude on behalf of the team for the responsibility entrusted to them. She acknowledged the significance of the President's promises to the people of Ghana and assured that the team would work diligently to fulfill their mandates. Dr Sawyerr pledged the team's commitment to not fail the President or the people of Ghana.
