Parents Urged to Enhance Literacy Environment for Children

Keta: Mr Matthias Tulasi, the Chief Executive Officer of Literacy Ambassadors, Ghana, in the Volta Region, has called on parents to create a more conducive literacy learning environment for children to enhance their reading skills and secure a brighter future. He emphasized the importance of introducing the spirit of reading and learning to children at a young age, as books hold the key to unlocking endless possibilities in a knowledge-driven world.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Tulasi made these remarks as the Guest Speaker during a book donation ceremony organized by Ceciyaa Foundation in collaboration with the National Readers Association at Keta AME Zion School. He highlighted that literacy is a valuable treasure capable of transforming lives and shaping a promising future for everyone. Drawing from his experiences as an educator and researcher, Mr Tulasi stressed the significant impact that access to books can have on young minds.

He elaborated that the book donations were more than just distributing pages and words; they were about planting seeds of curiosity, imagination, and empathy. This initiative aims to invest in the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and change-makers who will advance knowledge. Mr Tulasi urged the public to support educational initiatives and become ambassadors of hope in a world that often feels divided, emphasizing that giving is about nurturing the human spirit and building a compassionate society.

He appealed to parents to embrace the transformative power of books and spread the joy of reading. Quoting Nelson Mandela, he reminded everyone that education is the most powerful weapon to change the world and called for its use with compassion and determination. Mr Tulasi thanked the Ceciyaa Foundation and National Readers Association for their contributions, which he believes will transform and reshape the learning process for students.

Mr Ferdinand Amuzu, the Public Relations Officer for Ghana Education Service in Keta, speaking on behalf of the donors, stated that the gesture aimed to improve reading abilities and skills among learners in the districts. Over 31 schools from Anloga and Keta municipalities have benefited from more than 10,000 book donations, covering various subject areas for juveniles, pre-adults, and adults. He urged the beneficiary schools to protect and use the books appropriately and assured other schools awaiting support that their turn would come in future distributions.

Teachers and students who received the books expressed excitement and pledged to use them effectively to achieve educational goals and objectives.
