Accra: The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), in partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), held a sensitization and awareness campaign at the Women's Football Festival on Sunday to educate football fans on best road safety practices. The event, which drew hundreds of football fans to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, was used as a platform to engage and interact with individuals.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Felix Owusu, Planning Manager of the NRSA, said the engagement formed part of a broader strategy to engage key stakeholders in reducing road traffic accidents and fatalities. He highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that it aims to reduce the numerous crashes that often involve football teams or football lovers through education and sensitization.Mr. Owusu emphasized the necessity of collective effort, particularly from football clubs, to ensure the campaign's success. He further highlighted the alarming statistics surrounding road accidents in Ghana and t heir devastating impact on families and communities. Statistics from the National Road Safety Authority show that a total of 3,674 road traffic crashes were reported from January to March 2025.Additionally, Mr. Owusu urged other institutions, especially faith-based organizations, to champion the campaign to help reduce road crashes. The partnership between the National Road Safety Authority and the Ghana Football Association was established in December last year, aiming to promote road safety awareness and advocate for best practices among road users across the country.As part of the initiative, the GFA and NRSA will roll out a series of activities, including driving refresher courses for football clubs, branding GFA vehicles with the NRSA logo, and targeted awareness campaigns for football fans and communities.
