Accra: Both NLA and KGL are on the same page regarding the renegotiation to secure more funds from the NLA-KGL deal, which has been KGL’s stance with Mahama’s government since January 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, payments from KGL to NLA have been on the rise since 2019 due to continuous renegotiations, reflecting the expanding nature of their business relationship. It is anticipated that KGL’s payments to NLA will further increase from 2026 onwards, providing greater benefits to both the State and NLA.
The agency highlighted the importance of how NLA plans to efficiently utilize these payments from KGL in the interest of the State and the public. The renegotiation process is not associated with any termination or cancellation of KGL’s license agreement. The Director-General of NLA has affirmed that the NLA-KGL deal remains optimal and promises significant benefits for the State even after the renegotiations.
The statement further noted that any calls for the termination or cancellation of the NLA-KGL deal have been nullified by the Director-General’s strong endorsement of the agreement at the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.
