General

Anloga: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Anloga District of the Volta Region has called upon the public to incorporate maintaining and protecting the environment into their daily routines to enhance the quality of life for everyone.

According to Ghana News Agency, embracing environmentally friendly habits can greatly benefit the health and well-being of both individuals and communities.

Togbi Hatsu III, the NCCE Director at Anloga, emphasized in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) the critical importance of maintaining a healthy environment for human health, biodiversity, and economic prosperity. He highlighted that a clean environment reduces the risk of communicable diseases, supports wildlife, and facilitates sustainable development.

Togbe Hatsu stated that prioritizing environmental protection empowers individuals to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future. He elaborated on several methods to preserve the environment, such as recycling, reusing plastics, and composting organic waste, which can significantly reduce landfill waste. Additionally, planting trees is vital for absorbing carbon dioxide, producing oxygen, and supporting biodiversity, while transitioning to renewable energy sources like solar or wind power can diminish reliance on fossil fuels and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

Togbe Hatsu remarked on the longevity of waste materials like plastics, which can take over 400 years to decompose, underscoring the need for effective waste management to prevent communicable diseases. He emphasized that environmental protection is a collective responsibility requiring the involvement of individuals, communities, organizations, and governments. Everyone can play a role by making conscious lifestyle choices and advocating for policy changes that support environmental protection.

He urged the public to adopt measures such as proper waste disposal, maintaining clean public spaces, and promoting good hygiene practices to prevent disease spread. Togbe Hatsu also appealed to the government, philanthropists, and corporate organizations to establish recycling companies and factories within communities for proper waste management.

Togbe Hatsu encouraged the public to take responsibility for nurturing trees planted on ‘World Environment Day’ to foster a cleaner and more sustainable environment. He concluded that integrating eco-friendly habits into daily life and supporting sustainable practices would significantly impact community health and well-being, and managing waste materials, especially minimizing the use of polythene bags, would promote a healthier environment.
