Sixty Trafficked Victims Rescued by Police – CID Boss

Accra: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has successfully rescued 60 victims of human trafficking between September 5 and 19, 2025. The victims include 41 foreign nationals who were rescued within Ghana and 19 others who were rescued abroad. Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of CID, made this announcement during a media briefing in Accra on Saturday.

According to Ghana News Agency, the rescued individuals have been handed over to appropriate authorities for reintegration with their families. COP Donkor highlighted the persistent issue of criminals luring victims with promises of lucrative job opportunities abroad, only to exploit them. She noted that traffickers are now using new methods, such as transiting victims through multiple countries to evade detection.

The police administration is dedicated to combating human trafficking, with COP Donkor urging the public to be cautious. She emphasized that no legitimate recruitment agency would require individuals to travel through several countries by road as part of an employment process. She advised people to verify the authenticity of job offers before making any commitments.

COP Donkor also warned that recruiting or luring individuals under false pretenses is a criminal offense, and those found guilty will face legal consequences. She encouraged victims to report promptly to the nearest police station for assistance. Stressing the importance of collective efforts, she urged families, communities, and survivors to share their experiences to prevent others from becoming victims.
