Anloga: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Anloga District of the Volta Region organized a quiz competition for several basic schools to commemorate Ghana's 68th Independence anniversary. The event, held at Tegbi RC Basic School, aimed to educate students about Ghana's history, cultural heritage, and the struggles of the country's founding members for independence.According to Ghana News Agency, the participating schools included Tegbi R.C. Basic School, Tegbi-Agbedrafor M/A Basic School, Tegbi-Kpota E.P. Basic School, and Tegbi-Afedome M/A Basic School, though Tegbi Ashiata M/A Basic could not participate. Madam Emmanuella Woelikplim Apetorgbor, Assistant Civil Education Officer at Anloga, stated that the quiz covered subjects such as English language, current affairs, and constitutional knowledge. The competition was designed to keep students informed about Ghana's history and cultural heritage, emphasizing the importance of understanding the country's past and the significance of i ts independence struggle.Mr. Dominic Yao Dzanado, Director of the Anloga Education Directorate, served as the guest speaker for the occasion, delivering a keynote address on the theme 'Ghana's Future: Our Collective Responsibility.' He encouraged students to study diligently and become responsible citizens. He highlighted that the quiz was not just a competition but a means to gain knowledge about Ghana's history and the struggles of its founders.Mr. Dzanado also noted that the quiz aligned with the NCCE's goal of promoting constitutional knowledge and awareness among citizens. The commission has established Civic Education Clubs in schools nationwide to empower young Ghanaians with the knowledge and skills necessary to become active and responsible citizens. He emphasized that the success of the quiz competition demonstrated the NCCE's commitment to promoting civic education and patriotism among the youth, serving as a model for similar initiatives across the country.Tegbi RC Basic School emerged as th e winner with 51 points, followed by Tegbi Kpota EP School with 38 points, while Tegbi Agbedrafor M/A Basic School and Tegbi Afedome M/A Basic School secured the third and fourth positions with 34 and 28 points, respectively. Students and teachers expressed enthusiasm about the NCCE's efforts, recognizing the quiz competition as a commendable initiative to promote civic education and patriotism among Ghanaian youth. All participants received pens, pencils, exercise books, and other educational materials.
