Krachi East: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have joined forces to build a fire-resilient community in Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region. The collaborative initiatives aim to educate residents on fire safety and prevention measures, ultimately reducing the risk of fire outbreaks in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Clement Kwesi Mamadu, Municipal Director of NCCE, stated that this partnership is part of ongoing efforts to promote public safety and well-being in Ghana. The NCCE and GNFS team has been actively engaging with local communities, schools, and marketplaces to disseminate essential information on fire prevention and safety.
Mr. Mamadu highlighted that the education campaign focuses on practical steps individuals can take to prevent fires. These include switching off electrical appliances when not in use, keeping flammable materials away from heat sources, installing smoke detectors in homes, and conducting regular fire drills.
Mr. Stephen Agotor, Municipal Fire Commander of Krachi East, explained that fire outbreaks can occur anywhere and at any time, often caused by factors such as electrical faults, unattended cooking, candles, open flames, discarded cigarettes, and arson. The team’s educational efforts have already reached several areas, including the Yariga No2 community, Oti SHS, and various information centers within the Municipality.
