The Ladies Association of the Lands Commission (LACOLAS), Sunday donated assorted food items and bags of cement to the Nsawam Medium Security Female Prison as part of the Mother's Day celebration.The items, worth GHc50,000, were bags of rice, water, sanitary towels, boxes of biscuits, packs of soft drinks, and 50 bags of cement.Dr Mrs Theodora Mantebea Mends, the President of LACOLAS, presented the items to the inmates on behalf of the Association, which were received by Deputy Superintendent of Prison (DSP) Ernestina Lartey, the Officer on Duty.Dr Mends, also a Director at the Land Valuation Division, said the Association chose the Mother's Day to send words of encouragement to mothers and women who were disadvantaged, as a way of celebrating them.Over the years the Association had supported underprivileged persons in society, especially females, and promoted career development of female workers of the Commission.Last year, for instance, it presented hampers to the Mothers' Unit of the Maamobi Poly clinic in the Greater Accra Region, she said.Madam Yvonne Sowah, the Chairperson of the Greater Accra Region Lands Commission, and Patron of LACOLAS, said members chose the Mother's Day to show love and care to inmates of the Female Unit of the Nsawam Prisons.She commended the Association for the love, sacrifices and contributions to support the underprivileged in society.Source: Ghana News Agency
