Accra: The Melcom Group of Companies, a prominent retail entity in Ghana, has donated medical refrigerators worth US$125,000 to 25 health facilities across the country to bolster the storage of medicines, vaccines, and blood, thereby improving healthcare delivery.
According to Ghana News Agency, this recent donation brings the total number of medical refrigerators provided by Melcom to 70, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative that began in 2013. The beneficiaries of this initiative include the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ga East Municipal Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Tema General Hospital, and Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) Hospital. Additional recipients are Ho Teaching Hospital, Manhyia District Hospital in the Ashanti Region, Holy Family Hospital in the Bono Region, Bebiani Government Hospital, and Sefwi Wiaso Municipal Hospital in the Western North region.
Mr. Ramesh Sadhwani, Managing Director of Melcom Group, stated that the gesture reflects the company's ongoing commitment to supporting quality healthcare delivery in Ghana. He expressed confidence that the refrigerators would aid in the preservation of blood at appropriate temperatures. He emphasized that a healthy population is crucial for a sustainable business environment, highlighting Melcom's dedication to health initiatives which have led to approximately 12,000 pints of blood being donated over the past decade.
Mr. Francis Sam, General Manager of Melcom Group of Companies, reiterated the company's focus on health and education through its CSR activities. He noted that the donation of medical equipment began in 2013 through their endowment fund, underscoring the company's commitment to making a positive impact on people's lives by ensuring access to quality healthcare.
Madam Gloria Bentum, Public Relations Officer of Ga East Municipal Hospital, expressed gratitude on behalf of the recipients, acknowledging the significant impact of Melcom's contributions on quality healthcare. She described the donation as an investment in healthcare that will save lives and enhance the hospital's capacity to provide essential services.
