Accra: The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority Caucus in Parliament has announced plans to restructure and reveal its new leadership on Thursday. This decision comes in response to calls from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus, which urged the NDC to formally reorganize the leadership of the Majority to enhance legislative proceedings.
According to Ghana News Agency, the move follows the approval and swearing-in of Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson as the Majority Leader, who has also been appointed as Minister for Finance, and Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza as Majority Chief Whip, now serving as Minister of Roads and Highways.
Mr. Matthew Nyindam, NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpandai, expressed concerns over the current state of the House, likening it to "a sheep without a shepherd." He stated, "Mr. Speaker, we are confused about who is leading government business in the House. They should tell us who is leading us in this House because business must progress," during a session on Wednesday.
The MP further added, "Mr. Speaker, we are here and ready to support them, but we don't know our leader. We are all concerned. We cannot run this House like that."
In response, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson reassured the House that the Majority Caucus would designate its front bench the following day. He stated, "Mr. Speaker, I am still the leader of the House, and I have not been sworn in as the Minister of Finance [at a point when he had not yet been sworn in] God willing, tomorrow, [Thursday] the NDC Caucus will designate our front bench."
