La Nkwantanang Madina NCCE Hosts Candidates’ Dialogue for December Elections.

La Nkwantanang Madina: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) of the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipality has organized an Inter-Party Parliamentary Candidates Dialogue to facilitate interaction between constituents and aspiring parliamentarians in the area. This initiative aimed to provide parliamentary candidates (PCs) the opportunity to present their policies to the electorate, enabling voters to make informed decisions for the upcoming December 7 elections.According to Ghana News Agency, the event was attended by Mr. Francis Xavier Sosu, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, and Mr. Mohammed Awal, an Independent parliamentary candidate. However, Mr. Robert Lamptey, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, did not participate. The participants addressed questions on various issues, including education, infrastructure, health, and unemployment.During the dialogue, Mr. Sosu emphasized that leadership is not about promises but about past achievements. He highlighted the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) role in implementing the progressively free form of the Free SHS policy and noted the challenges faced by the NPP's full implementation. Mr. Sosu stated that if Mr. John Mahama assumes office, he would allocate special funding for the Free SHS policy to address personnel and infrastructure needs. He also mentioned the successful implementation of the Best Teacher Awards Scheme and the impact of the Madina Job Centre on approximately 7,000 people. Mr. Sosu committed to ensuring peace and protecting the sanctity of the ballot in the upcoming elections.Mr. Awal, on the other hand, promised to use the Common Fund as a revolving fund for community interests if elected. He prioritized health needs and advocated for a review of the Free SHS policy to address existing challenges.Madam Doris Agyeman, the Municipal NCCE Director, described the forum as a crucial platform for constituents to evaluate their preferred candidates and make informed choices. She emphasized the importa nce of non-violence, issue-based campaigning, tolerance, and peace before, during, and after the election. Despite only two out of three PCs attending, Madam Agyeman rated the event's success at 50 percent, acknowledging that its core objectives were achieved. She reiterated the NCCE's recognition of citizens' critical role in the democratic process and the importance of the PCD platform for constituency-level interaction.
