Sal©: His Majesty King Mohammed VI, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, initiated the construction of the Rabat-Sal©-Kenitra region’s essential reserves platform in the commune of Ameur. This project represents Morocco’s model of resilience and swift disaster relief deployment.
According to Ghana News Agency, the King’s directive includes establishing large platforms of essential reserves in each Kingdom region. These reserves, which include tents, blankets, beds, medicines, and foodstuffs, aim to provide immediate disaster response for events such as floods, earthquakes, and radiological hazards.
The Rabat-Sal©-Kenitra platform will occupy a 20-hectare site and is expected to be completed within a year, with an estimated budget of MAD 287.5 million. The project features four warehouses, two shelters for oversized equipment, a helipad, and parking lots.
This initiative is part of a broader program involving the construction of twelve platforms, costing approximately MAD 7 billion. These platforms will cover a total area of 240 hectares, housing 36 warehouses tailored to regional population density and risk factors.
For six major regions, including Casablanca-Settat and Marrakech-Safi, the platforms will consist of four warehouses each, with 20,000 m² surface area. The remaining six regions will have two warehouses each, with 10,000 m² surface area. The stored products and equipment are intended for immediate deployment in case of disasters, ensuring rapid response and adequate aid.
The reserves will include 200,000 multi-purpose tents, mobile bakeries, food kits, water purification equipment, and power generators. Additionally, rescue and response capacities will be enhanced with equipment for flood control and chemical hazard mitigation. Healthcare provisions include field hospitals and advanced medical posts for immediate disaster response.
The platforms will adhere to strict storage management rules, ensuring compliance with relevant standards. This initiative aims to bolster Morocco’s national emergency infrastructure, enhancing crisis response efficiency and resilience.
The comprehensive program also seeks to provide strategic reserves, augmenting the response following the Al Haouz earthquake. It aims to establish a national ecosystem for producing necessary disaster relief equipment. The platform sites were selected based on safety criteria and rigorous risk analysis, aligning with international best practices.
