AFIENYA: The JILCE International University and Seminary recently celebrated its ninth graduation and eighth ordination ceremony, emphasizing the need for educational institutions to equip students with skills essential for the job market. The event underscored the pressing issue of youth unemployment in the region and highlighted the university’s commitment to providing practical and vocational training.
According to Ghana News Agency, Professor Boison Boateng Nuamah, the Founder and President of JILCE University, addressed the gathering, noting the high unemployment rates among the youth in Afienya, Tema, and surrounding areas. Prof. Nuamah attributed this trend to a lack of necessary skills, as revealed by research conducted by the institution. He highlighted that the university is fully registered and accredited to offer nine courses under the National Vocational Technical Institute (NVTI), supplemented by additional programs with certifications from affiliate universities.
The graduation ceremony saw 15 students receiving master’s and first degrees in various disciplines. Prof. Nuamah emphasized that the courses are designed to provide students with practical skills, thereby empowering them to launch their businesses post-graduation. The institution’s focus on skill development aims to address the unemployment challenges faced by the local youth.
Elias Kledo, a graduate in biostatistics, shared his experience with the Ghana News Agency, stating that the course equipped him with the ability to analyze data effectively. He urged the youth to challenge themselves and prioritize their education. Kledo also encouraged productivity among the youth and advised those who are physically challenged not to let their conditions hinder their pursuit of dreams and higher education.
