Gwira Traditional Area to Receive Eight Key Development Projects

Axim: The Gwira Traditional Area is slated to benefit from eight of the eleven projects initiated by the Nzema-East Municipal Assembly this year. This initiative aims to address the long-standing developmental gap in the region, which has often been overlooked in favor of other parts of the municipality.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Herbert Kuah-Dickson, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Nzema-East Assembly, announced the projects during a tour at Ndatiem near Axim. He emphasized that these projects are scheduled to be completed on time to enhance the infrastructure and living conditions in the Gwira area. The Assembly plans to execute eight projects in Gwira, while the remaining three will be in the Evaloe and Ajomoro areas.

The Gwira Traditional Area is located in the northern part of the Nzema-East Municipality and is a crucial agricultural hub. However, it has historically received less attention in terms of development compared to the southern areas, such as Axim. The planned projects include two CHPS Compounds, four six-unit classroom blocks, a police station, a zonal council, and 10 boreholes. Particularly, the police station at Kutukrom will address the distance issue with the current station in Axim.

Mr. Kuah-Dickson acknowledged the developmental challenges in Gwira and stated that the Assembly is committed to addressing these issues. He also indicated that once these projects are underway, a new batch will be awarded to further develop the area. Funding for the current projects is secured, ensuring uninterrupted progress over the next one year and eight months.

The road network in the municipality is another significant concern. Except for a few asphalted kilometers in Axim, most roads are in poor condition, especially in Gwira. The Assembly has taken proactive steps to use DRIP machines for grading and filling roads with quarry stones and gravel, improving connectivity from Enyinase to Bamiankor.

Mr. Kofi Arko-Nokoe, Member of Parliament for Evaloe Ajomoro-Gwira, expressed his commitment to equitable resource allocation across the constituency. Despite limited funding, the Assembly has begun reshaping roads from Axim to Gwira-Asheim, Enyinase, and Bamiankor, with plans to extend to Kutukrom. This effort aims to foster unity and development within the region.
