Prampram: The Ghana Industrial Trawlers Association (GITA) has elected Mr. Dominic Asamoah Danquah as its new national president. Mr. Danquah emerged victorious in a closely contested election during the association's maiden Annual General Meeting (AGM) in nearly two decades of GITA's existence.
According to Ghana News Agency, the election marks a new chapter for the association as it aims to address the challenges it currently faces. The AGM, held in Prampram in the Greater Accra Region, was attended by Madam Emelia Arthur, the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, and brought together over 40 corporate member companies and more than 100 individual members.
Other executive members elected include Mr. Kojo Ampratwum as Vice President, Mr. Danny Quaye as Secretary, Mr. Jerome Selorm Deameji as Financial Secretary, and Mr. Ohene Nana Ampem Kessie as Treasurer. Mr. Danquah, who serves as the Managing Director of A.S. Domdanq Limited and Akrafi Fisheries Limited, emphasized unity and strategic communication as the cornerstones of his leadership vision.
In his address to delegates before the elections, Mr. Danquah stated, "Unity is our greatest strength. It is our trump card in presenting a united and formidable front for the survival of this industry." He also expressed concern about the widespread misconceptions surrounding the trawling industry, noting that misinformation had unjustly damaged the industry's reputation and impacted GITA's members.
Mr. Danquah pledged to address these misconceptions and ensure that Ghanaians understand the essential role of the industry. He emphasized the need to bring clarity, tackle injustices, and reshape the public narrative, asserting that a united effort could lead to a more equitable future for all stakeholders.
He expressed gratitude to the outgoing executives, particularly the immediate past president, Mr. Stephen Adjokatcher, for their dedication and service. He also acknowledged GITA's founding fathers for establishing a solid foundation. "We are deeply grateful to the past leaders for their sacrifices and leadership," he remarked, vowing to build on their legacy while drawing from their experience.
