Gomoa akropong no.2: The Chiefs and people of Gomoa Akropong No.2 in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region have launched their 2026 Akwambo festival to celebrate 70 years of settlement in the town by their forefathers.

According to Ghana News Agency, speaking at the launch, Nana Odum Armando VI, Amankrahene (Divisional chief) of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, urged parents to take full responsibility for their children and stop spending lavishly on clothes and other material things. He highlighted concerns that some parents have neglected their children, not adequately providing for their clothing, feeding, and shelter, which has forced some to become wayward.

The Amankrahene, who is also the chief of Akropong No.2, emphasized that the best legacy to leave to their children is to invest heavily in their education to help them become responsible adults in the community and the nation as a whole. To support this initiative, an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre is set to be commissioned in December this year to encourage students in the town to become computer literate.

Nana Odum Amanfo, a former senior Police Officer, shared how education facilitated his travels to many foreign countries during his active service and appealed to parents to similarly invest in their children’s education. He also reiterated calls on the residents of Gomoa Akropong No.2 to pay festival levies of GHC50.00 per male and GHC30.00 per female resident to help undertake developmental projects.

Addressing the youth, Nana Odum Amanfo reminded them of the hard work and efforts of their forefathers to settle in Akropong No.2 and encouraged them to actively participate in all activities towards the town’s progress. He advised the youth to abstain from illicit drugs and instead focus on pursuing higher education or learning vocational and technical skills to improve their lives.

In response to the water crisis affecting the town, Nana Odum Amanfo assured residents that the chiefs are collaborating with the Authorities of the Gomoa Central District Assembly to provide boreholes to alleviate the burden on the community, especially school children. The 2026 Akwambo festival, set to be celebrated in January next year, is expected to be unique with the participation of people from the diaspora for the first time.
