Ghana Must Have a National Vision to Avoid Development Stagnation: Archbishop Duncan Williams

Accra: Archbishop Nicolas Duncan Williams, the General Overseer of Action Faith Chapel International, has emphasized the necessity for Ghana to adopt a national vision as a development blueprint to prevent aimless progress in its developmental goals. He highlighted the importance of a unified national vision that aligns with political party manifestos for a long-term period of 25 years or more to ensure continuity and avoid stagnation in the nation's development.

According to Ghana News Agency, Archbishop Duncan Williams conveyed this message during the Speaker of Parliament's First Breakfast Prayer Meeting of the Ninth Parliament of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship (PCF) in Accra. He urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to overcome political differences and work collaboratively towards sustainable national development. By referencing countries such as Rwanda, China, India, and Singapore, which have successfully implemented long-term national visions, he called on Ghana to seize the opportunity to develop a comprehensive and holistic national vision.

The Archbishop stressed that such a vision would help halt the cycle of resource wastage and ensure consistent development, regardless of the ruling political party. He expressed hope that the current Parliament would take the initiative to establish a national vision, emphasizing its importance for future generations. Additionally, he encouraged the government to foster an environment conducive to youth development, reducing the need for seeking opportunities abroad.

Highlighting the peace and stability in Ghana, Archbishop Duncan Williams urged citizens not to take these for granted and to actively work towards preserving them. Speaker of Parliament Alban S. K. Bagbin echoed these sentiments, urging parliamentarians to prioritize national interests over personal ambitions and to demonstrate leadership that fosters unity and sustainable national development.

The prayer meeting, themed "A Better and a Stronger Parliament," was attended by Members of Parliament, the Clerkship, the Clergy, and Staff of the Parliament Service. Attendees prayed for national leaders and the nation, reinforcing the importance of divine guidance in parliamentary functions. The event emphasized the need for parliamentarians to inspire positive change and leave a legacy that motivates future generations.
