Wenchi: Nana Pantu Nangor II, the Chief of Subinso Number Two in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, has appealed to the government to register the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of the Gbinyiri clash taking shelter in the area on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Nangor II expressed concern about the deteriorating health conditions of many IDPs, particularly children and nursing mothers, stressing the urgent need for insurance cards to facilitate access to medical care. He emphasized the need for more humanitarian support to ensure their well-being. Nana Nangor II articulated this plea during an interview with the media, coinciding with a visit by Major (Rtd) Dr Joseph Bikankyi Kuyo, the Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), to the community.
The clash has displaced more than 800 individuals, primarily women and children, who have been forced to flee their homes. Many have found refuge in local communities within the Municipality, with Subinso Number Two being a major host. Other communities such as Botenso, Nwoase, and Nchiraa are also providing shelter following the eruption of the conflict in Gbinyiri in the Salwa/Tuna/Kalba District of the Savannah region on Sunday, August 25, 2025.
Nana Nangor II highlighted the urgent need for food aid, clothing, footwear, blankets, and other essential supplies to support the displaced persons.
Earlier, Maj (Rtd) Kuyo informed the media that his visit aimed to evaluate the conditions of the IDPs and gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation to determine the necessary assistance and interventions required. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the government to the local chiefs and residents for their cooperation and support to the displaced individuals, advocating for intensified efforts to resolve the conflict and restore peace to Gbinyiri and its surrounding areas.
Maj (Rtd) Dr Kuyo’s visit was supported by Sheikh Ahmed Rufai Bolas, the Deputy Director General of NADMO in-charge of Technical Operations, Mrs Fati KIne-Lam, the Bono Regional Director of NADMO, Mr Suleiman Mohammed, the Wenchi Municipal Director of NADMO, Superintendent George Kwakye, the Wenchi Municipal Police Commander, and Madam Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive.
