GAF and GIS Strengthen Ties Through Sports

Accra: The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has made a significant move to fortify its relationship with the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) by meeting with Comptroller General Samuel Basintale Amadu. This meeting was aimed at discussing strategies to enhance collaboration between the two institutions through sports.According to Ghana News Agency, the visit also served as an opportunity for the GAF to congratulate Mr. Amadu on his recent appointment as the head of the GIS. During the meeting, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of the GAF, acknowledged the GIS as a pivotal partner since the initiation of armwrestling in Ghana in 2016. This partnership has been instrumental, with the GIS having produced key figures such as the national team captain Edward Asamoah and world referee Nii Otoo Larkyne.Mr. Asibey highlighted the contributions of the GIS to the development of sports, noting that personnel support had enabled Ghana Armwrestling to secure 41 medals at the 2023 Africa Games. He urged the GIS to c ontinue leveraging sports as a means to enhance its image and congratulated Mr. Amadu on his new role.Mr. Amadu expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the GAF and emphasized the GIS's commitment to sports. He acknowledged the need to revitalize the service's sports teams and revealed plans to introduce new players into various sports disciplines within the security service.The meeting concluded with Mr. Amadu receiving a medal symbolizing the enduring partnership between the GAF and GIS. The gathering was attended by several high-ranking officers from the GIS and notable members of the GAF, including Vice President Dr. Kofi Addo Agyekum and Member of Parliament for Berekum West Constituency, Mr. Dickson Kyere Duah.
