Former President Akufo-Addo Urges Support for National Day of Prayer Initiative

Accra: Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Former President of Ghana, has called on Ghanaians to support the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving initiative, introduced by the Government. He emphasized the importance of dedicating a day for collective gratitude to the Almighty for the blessings bestowed upon the nation, particularly its unity and stability.

According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Akufo-Addo made these remarks during a courtesy call by the Planning Committee of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving at his residence in Accra. The committee introduced themselves and formally invited him to the national event. The initiative aims to unite Christians, Muslims, and other religious groups under the theme: 'Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity.'

The program will feature a Christian segment at the forecourt of the State House from 0800 hours to 1000 hours, followed by Muslim prayers at the National Mosque from 1230 hours to 1400 hours. Nana Akufo-Addo highlighted that despite challenges, Ghana has maintained its course without descending into conflict, marking it as a profound blessing to preserve.

Nana Akufo-Addo noted that Ghana is in its Fourth Republic, having experienced four peaceful government transitions. He cited the events of December last year as evidence that peaceful transfers of power through popular consultation are integral to the national culture. He commended the President for initiating this event and praised the planning committee for their dedication.

Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Chair for the Committee, mentioned recent visits to national leaders for guidance and support in preparing for the celebration. He highlighted Ghana's unique position as a country that, unlike many others, has not experienced civil war in its 67 years of independence. He urged Ghanaians to participate actively, noting the nation's peaceful and united status despite electoral challenges.

Mr. Ankrah advised participants to avoid wearing political party colors and instead opt for clothing that reflects national colors, all-white outfits, or other appropriate celebratory attire.
