Accra: Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has been appointed as the Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources. Mr Buah, a prominent political figure, is a five-term Member of Parliament representing the Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region. With an extensive background in public administration and energy policy, he holds a Master of Science degree in Management from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science with a major in Law from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and a Graduate Diploma in Law from The University of Law, UK.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Buah's experience in the energy sector is notable. Between 2009 and 2012, he served as Deputy Minister of Energy, contributing significantly to Ghana's energy landscape. One of his key achievements during this period was his involvement in the Ghana Gas Task Force, which laid the groundwork for the establishment of the Ghana National Gas Company in 2010. This initiative marked a signifi cant shift in Ghana's energy supply framework, stabilizing electricity generation through enhanced gas resources.In March 2013, Mr Buah was appointed as the Minister for Energy and Petroleum, a role he held until January 2017. During his tenure, he was instrumental in transforming Ghana's energy sector, overseeing major projects like the development of the Sankofa-Gye Nyame and TEN oil fields. He also focused on promoting local content and revising petroleum laws for sustainable resource management. His legislative accomplishments include championing the Local Content and Local Participation Regulations (L.I. 2204), the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act 2016 (Act 919), the Petroleum Commission Act 2011 (Act 821), and the Renewable Energy Act, which established a transparent framework for the energy sector's development.Mr Buah's efforts in securing the ENI Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project further bolstered Ghana's gas production capacity, solidifying his legacy in the energy sector. Pres ently, he serves as the Deputy Majority Leader in the Parliament of Ghana, continuing his influential role in shaping the country's policies.
