Accra: Assembly Members in the Ellembelle District have expressed sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight illustrious sons of Ghana.
According to Ghana News Agency, a statement issued and signed by Mr Charles Kwesi, Presiding Member of the Ellembelle District Assembly, extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, the Vice President, Government of Ghana, the bereaved families, and all affected by the tragedy.
The statement highlighted the significant loss Ghana has suffered with the deaths of dedicated public servants. Among the deceased were the late Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, who until his sudden demise was the Defence Minister, and Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology. Others who perished in the crash included Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice Chairman, Mr Samuel Aboagye, Deputy National NADMO Coordinator, Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah.
The Assembly expressed hope that the contributions of these individuals to the nation would not be forgotten and would serve as lessons for future generations. The statement emphasized the importance of avoiding sensationalism, respecting the privacy of the bereaved families, and ensuring that only accurate and verified information is reported.
In solidarity, the Assembly urged all Ghanaians to join in observing the three days of mourning and offered prayers for the departed, hoping that they would find a peaceful resting place until a future reunion.
