Celebrated Media Educator and Journalist Nana Gyan-Apenteng Passes Away at 74

London: Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, a distinguished journalist and Board Chairman of the Ghana News Agency, has passed away in London at the age of 74 after a short illness with cancer.

According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Gyan-Apenteng was a former editor and columnist for The Mirror weekly newspaper and held the title of Apagyahene of Tafo Eti in the Eastern Region. He was also a former member and Chairman of the National Media Commission and served as president of the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW).

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was the deputy editor of the London-based West Africa magazine. After returning to Ghana in the 1990s, he worked with the Third World Network as head of the communication unit and editor of its monthly magazine, Africa Agenda.

Nana Gyan-Apenteng was also a media trainer and communication consultant for several organizations, including MTN, various UN agencies, the Media Foundation for West Africa, and STAR Ghana. He was an alumnus of Apam Secondary School and the University of Ghana, Legon.

He is survived by six children. The family will announce burial and funeral arrangements in due course.
