Kadjebi: Mr. Emmanuel Nana Nyarko Dabo, a business tycoon, has single-handedly funded the Kadjebi East Circuit 2025 Reading Festival. The event, themed 'Reading: The Passcode to Knowledge,' aimed to revive and promote the culture of reading among students in the region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Chief Inspector of Schools, Mr. Alex Dotse-Gbogbotsi, emphasized the importance of reading, writing, and computing in achieving literacy. He noted that while students are proficient with gadgets, they often struggle with reading, highlighting a decline in reading culture among the younger generation. Mr. Dotse-Gbogbotsi urged parents and teachers to engage children in reading-related activities to foster a love for reading.
Ms. Cynthia Krakasu, the District Early Child Education Coordinator, discussed the significance of reading in personal development. She referred to the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) education policy of 2006, under the USAID EdData II project, as a framework for improving literacy skills in the district. The Kadjebi District has developed a strategic roadmap to enhance literacy proficiency among students.
Mr. Agbesi Mensah, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for Kadjebi East Circuit, encouraged teachers to learn from the festival's activities. He stressed that the event was an opportunity to evaluate and improve their educational practices. Mr. Mensah also praised Mr. Emmanuel Nana Nyarko Dabo, a former Akan National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant, for his continued support in the circuit and district.
The Reading Festival concluded with Kadjebi EP Primary School winning the competition with 60 marks. They were followed by Kadjebi R.C Primary with 52 marks, Kadjebi D/A 'A' Primary with 43 marks, Kadjebi D/A Primary with 34 marks, and Awudome Kope D/A Primary with 8.5 marks.
