Ayitikope Community Seeks Government Intervention for Basic Amenities

AYITIKOPE: The residents of Ayitikope, a community situated in the Gefia electoral area of the Akatsi South Municipality in the Volta Region, have urgently called for the provision of essential social amenities to improve their living conditions. The appeal was made during the 47th annual Ayitikope Denyaza festival, with community leaders emphasizing the potential for increased productivity and business growth should their needs be met.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Timothy Nyakpo, Secretary of the 2025 Ayitikope Denyaza Central Planning Committee, delivered an address on behalf of the community's chiefs and residents, outlining the pressing challenges faced by the area. These include inadequate road networks and the need for borehole water mechanization. Mr. Nyakpo urged the government to construct a motorable road connecting Akatsi through Zuta, Bata, Kpohega, and Ayitikope to Ohawu in the Ketu North Municipal, which would significantly enhance accessibility.

Further appeals were made for the extension of electrification projects to underserved areas and the introduction of a school feeding program to alleviate some of the community's challenges. The local basic school also requires a teacher's bungalow to provide accommodation for educators, reducing the hazards associated with daily long-distance travel.

Despite these challenges, the community celebrated certain achievements, such as the completion of an electrification project, a functioning borehole, and toilet facilities for both primary and junior high schools. Mr. Nyakpo expressed gratitude to the government for the construction of an irrigation dam and a six-unit classroom block, which includes an office and store equipped with tables and chairs to enhance educational outcomes.

Mr. Daniel Dagba, the Akatsi South constituency National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary, attended the festival and assured that the incoming NDC government would prioritize addressing these challenges. Togbi Korbadzi III, Dufia of Gefia, who chaired the festival, called for unity among citizens and political parties to drive national progress and development.

The festival, themed "Community Development, everyone's responsibility for Progress," saw participation from various dignitaries, including traditional leaders such as Togbi Katsekpor IV, Dufia of Ayitikope, and Togbi Akoto VII of Akatsi-Tatorme, along with former assembly members and religious leaders. The event was marked by lively drumming and dancing, reflecting the community spirit and hope for a brighter future.
