Atwima Mponua NCCE Hosts Parliamentary Dialogue with Focus on Education.

Atwima Mponua: The Atwima Mponua District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) recently organized a parliamentary dialogue featuring the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, Mr. Stephen Yeboah, and the local electorate. This event was designed to give parliamentary candidates an opportunity to present their visions to the public as they campaign to replace former Youth and Sports Minister, Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah. However, only Mr. Yeboah attended, as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mr. Seth Osei Akoto, did not appear in person, choosing instead to send a representative, which breached the rules of engagement.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Yeboah emphasized education as his primary focus, should he be elected to represent the constituency in parliament. He expressed his ambition to advocate for the establishment of a College of Education within the constituency to address the ongoing teacher shortage. In his previous role as a District Chief Executive (DCE) during the Mahama administration, Mr. Yeboah contributed significantly to the construction of the Community Day Senior High School at Adobewura. He further reiterated his commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure to ensure a conducive learning environment. The NCCE conducts research each election year to identify key issues concerning citizens, which are then used to guide parliamentary dialogues nationwide. These dialogues aim to offer a platform for candidates to engage on issues identified in the research, assisting voters in making informed decisions.Mr. Simon Kwesi Padi, the District Director of NCCE, highlighted that education, health, employment, roads, infrastructure, agriculture, and the economy were identified as pressing issues in the research. The dialogue initiative seeks to encourage issue-based campaigning, particularly at the constituency level, fostering informed electoral participation.Emphasizing the significance of elections in strengthening democracies, Mr. P adi advised against using them to undermine Ghana's democratic framework. He called on all stakeholders to commit to maintaining peace as a civic duty. Additionally, Mr. Padi noted that the Commission is actively working to combat misinformation and disinformation, which pose a significant threat to peace in the run-up to the elections.
