Accra: AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has made a significant contribution to education by donating cadet uniforms to the Abompuniso Municipal Assembly (M/A) Basic School and sports kits valued at GHS741,000 to eight other Basic Schools within its host communities. The donation ceremony, held at the Abompuniso M/A Basic School, is part of the Mine's Basic Education Improvement Programme.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Stephen Adjei, the Senior Manager of Sustainability at AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting education beyond the classroom. He highlighted that education encompasses discipline, leadership, teamwork, and physical well-being, which are fostered through cadet training and sports activities. By providing cadet uniforms and sports kits, the company aims to shape disciplined, confident, and responsible young leaders while nurturing talents, promoting unity, and encouraging healthy lifestyles.Mr. Adjei explained that the cadet uniforms would inst ill a sense of identity, pride, and belonging among young trainees, while the sports kits would offer students opportunities to develop their sports skills and teamwork abilities. He reiterated the Mine's dedication to enhancing quality education, skill development, economic empowerment, and social progress, expressing hope that the donation would inspire children to become future leaders, athletes, and professionals.Mr. Yaw Beyuo, Circuit Supervisor for Akyem Circuit, received the items on behalf of the beneficiary schools and acknowledged Iduapriem Mine as a major partner in advancing education in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality. He noted the Mine's contributions, including constructing classroom blocks, teacher's quarters, providing learning aids, and awarding scholarships, have significantly impacted the community's education development.Madam Joana Muddy, Headmistress of Abompuniso M/A Basic School, expressed gratitude for the uniforms, which enable the school's cadet group to participate in competiti ons. She called on Iduapriem Mine and other institutions to help establish an Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory for the school.
