Over 11,000 Students Sit for WASSCE in Ahafo Region

Ahafo: Over 11,000 candidates are writing the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the Ahafo Region.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Yaw Frimpong, the Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), stated that the candidates include 5,004 males and 6,807 females.Speaking in an interview at Goaso, the regional capital, he noted that 8,879 candidates were from public schools and 2,932 from private schools in the region. The WASSCE is being conducted at 23 centers, with participation from 18 public and eight private schools. The education directorate has intensified efforts to curb examination malpractices.Mr. Frimpong highlighted concerns over Ahafo's history as a hotspot for examination malpractices. He explained that the GES, in collaboration with the West African Examination Council (WAEC), has engaged extensively with Senior High School authorities to address the issue. School heads have signed agreements to prevent malpractices this y ear, and candidates are cautioned against bringing prohibited materials into examination halls.
