Ada East NCCE Engages Churches on Importance of Childhood Vaccination and Weighing

Ada East: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has actively engaged with members of several churches in the Ada East District to discuss the significance of childhood vaccination and weighing. This initiative forms part of the African Vaccination and Child Health Promotion Week.

According to Ghana News Agency, NCCE officials visited congregations at the Divine Healers' Church, Church of Pentecost, and The Living Church in Asigbekorpe, as well as the Methodist Church at Azizanya, Church of Pentecost at Ada Foah-Lolonyakorpe, and Believers Gospel Ministry, Divine Healers, and Potters Recreation Chapel in Big Ada. Madam Faustina Blewusi, also known as Mama Megbenya II, who serves as the Ada East District Director of the NCCE, urged parents, guardians, and caregivers to prioritize their children's health, highlighting that quality healthcare is a fundamental right of the child.

Madam Blewusi emphasized the importance of the survival, development, and protection of children, noting that these are critical interests for parents and caregivers. She stressed that the right to survival includes ensuring the health of the child, which encompasses nutrition, clothing, and shelter. These elements must be provided by parents to support the various developmental stages of a child, such as schooling, learning a trade, and pursuing other careers.

Furthermore, Madam Blewusi pointed out that while prayers are beneficial, they cannot solely protect children from illnesses or secure their futures. She advocated for the necessity of good and proper healthcare alongside spiritual practices.

She also encouraged parents to actively participate in vaccination and weighing exercises to secure their children's future, stating that a healthy child allows parents the peace of mind to focus on daily activities. Additionally, she warned against the dangers of self-medication for children, describing it as harmful to their health and overall well-being.

Feedback from some parents, as reported by the Ghana News Agency, indicated satisfaction with the engagement. They expressed that they have gained valuable insights into the importance of vaccination, weighing, and maintaining quality healthcare for children. Some church members also shared that they consistently promote healthy lifestyles for their children.
