Kyiv: The Ukrainian parliament voted to accept the resignation of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. The decision was made during a session on Wednesday, where 261 out of 320 parliament members present supported the motion.
According to Ghana News Agency, Shmyhal submitted his resignation to parliament on Tuesday. This followed President Volodymyr Zelensky's announcement that he had nominated First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko for the position of prime minister. Shmyhal had been serving as the prime minister of Ukraine since March 2020.
Under Ukrainian law, the resignation of the prime minister necessitates the resignation of the entire government. Despite this, the current cabinet will continue to fulfill its duties until a new government is established. Local media have reported that Shmyhal might assume the role of defense minister in the forthcoming government.
