Accra Metropolitan University Confers Honorary Doctorate on IGP Yohuno

Accra: Accra Metropolitan University (AMU) has conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno in recognition of nearly four decades of distinguished national service. Mr Tetteh-Yohuno's career in law enforcement includes key leadership positions such as Accra Regional Commander, Director General of Operations, and Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations. He also served as the founding head of the Police Intelligence Directorate.

According to Ghana News Agency, Professor Gorski Alarbi, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, praised IGP Yohuno for bringing intellectual depth to law enforcement. Prof Alarbi noted that Mr Yohuno's commitment to public service exemplifies how wisdom can transform nations. Under his leadership, the Ghana Police Service has maintained law and order while inspiring a new generation of officers committed to ethical leadership and the rule of law.

The citation highlighted Mr Yohuno's outstanding leadership in public security and his dedication to justice and democratic governance, leading to the conferral of the honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the university's Governing Council. Prof Alarbi emphasized that the ceremony was a celebration of both academic excellence and the life of a man whose work has safeguarded law, order, and justice.

Internationally, Mr Yohuno's contributions include serving in UN Peacekeeping Missions in Bosnia, Herzegovina, and East Timor, where he played a role in intelligence development and resolving high-profile cases. His efforts in combating armed robbery earned him the Grand Medal in 2011.

Appointed Inspector General of Police in March 2025, Mr Yohuno is recognized for his clarity, courage, and vision. His early career began as a top graduate from the Police Training School in Winneba in 1986. A Ga-Dangme, IGP Yohuno is also an alumnus of West Africa Secondary School, Okwapiman Secondary School, University of Professional Studies Accra, and the University of Ghana Business School.
