Tamale: Mr Abdul Wahab Osman, Founder and Team Lead of Hive Students Hub Community, has called on young individuals to embrace the burgeoning digital technologies of Web3 and blockchain as means for empowerment, innovation, and self-employment. He highlighted the HIVE Blockchain as a platform offering young people practical opportunities to display their creativity, build significant networks, and earn rewards for their online contributions.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Osman, speaking at the Web3 and Blockchain Tech Summit in Tamale, emphasized that digital innovations are reshaping the future of work, enabling young people to create and own their content. The summit, attended by around 150 participants from the Northern Region, aimed to equip youth with digital skills and accounts to kickstart their journey on the HIVE Blockchain platform. The event was supported by the HIVE Students Hub in collaboration with Hacker Boost, Foodqwik, Tamale Offline Hangout, and the Students Representative Council of the University for Development Studies.
Mr Osman encouraged participants to explore opportunities on the platform with patience and perseverance, stating, "Your first paycheck might come at the end of one month or later. Just build good connections and be as engaging as possible."
Mr Sahabia Yakubu, CEO of Hacker Boost, underscored the increasing significance of Web3 and blockchain in shaping digital ownership and freedom of expression. He explained that unlike Web2 platforms, where content can be censored or deleted by central authorities, Web3 offers users complete control over their digital assets and communities. He remarked, "If you build millions of followers on a Web3 platform, they belong to you and not the platform. Even if a platform decides to remove you, your content and your community remain behind yours. That's the kind of freedom Web3 offers."
Mr Yakubu also pointed out challenges such as limited access to learning resources, low public awareness, and ambiguous government regulations facing the ecosystem. He urged the media and government to actively promote education and awareness about Web3 technologies.
Miss Najlau Zakari, a Hive blockchain enthusiast, shared her rewarding and transformative experience on the platform, stating that HIVE had allowed her to earn income, build valuable networks, and learn from others. She noted, "Being a 'new bee' on Hive was a little bit challenging but once you get used to it, everything becomes simple."
Ms Shaida Ajaasuma Tagra, another participant and a poet, expressed enthusiasm about the summit and lauded the organizers for raising awareness on the potential of blockchain technology. She mentioned that learning about Web3 had enlightened her on new ways to protect her creative works from plagiarism, stating, "Sometimes, you write a poem and someone with more influence may claim ownership. Learning about blockchain made me realize I can share my work freely without fear."
