Women Encouraged to Enter Road Sector, Says Deputy Minister-Designate Suhuyini

Accra: Mr Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, the Deputy Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways, emphasized the need to deliberately encourage women to join the road sector through the creation of an enticing educational program. During his vetting for the deputy ministerial position, he mentioned that such initiatives would equip women with the necessary desire and skills.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Suhuyini highlighted the potential role of the Roads Ministry's technical training college in Koforidua in redesigning its programs to be more female-sensitive. This would make the sector more appealing for women, thereby promoting gender diversity in the predominantly male-dominated field.

Mr Suhuyini also discussed the potential of using technology to enforce traffic regulations without the need for human presence. He expressed his commitment to exploring available technologies in collaboration with the Minister, pending approval.

On the topic of road infrastructure, Mr Suhuyini acknowledged the government's awareness of the necessity to improve roads, especially those used by farmers. He assured that efforts would be made to reshape these roads to ensure they are motorable and safe.

In response to a personal question during the vetting, Mr Suhuyini confirmed his marital status, stating that he is married to Hamdiya Amadu Yakubu Vorsky, with whom he has four children. The Chairman of the Committee, Mr Bernard Ahiafor, concluded the session by expressing confidence in Mr Suhuyini's integrity to support the Minister effectively.
