Wenchi: Alhaji Seidu Haruna, the Member of Parliament for Wenchi Constituency in the Bono Region, has launched a project to provide employable skills training to indigenous and vulnerable young women in the area. The initiative aims to equip these women with skills in soap making, pastries and baking, liquid soap production, and other detergents. The project, dubbed the 'Women Empowerment Project,' was inaugurated at a ceremony in Subinso Number Two.
According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Haruna emphasized that the project would give indigenous women the opportunity to learn crafts of their choice that could lead to decent employment. He highlighted that the training would focus on guiding the women to acquire skills with high market demand, thereby empowering them economically. This empowerment, he noted, would enable the women to contribute significantly to local economic growth and development.
The MP also took the opportunity to caution the youth against engaging in illegal mining, warning that those caught would face arrest and prosecution. In her remarks, Nana Akosua Benewaa II, the Gyaasehemaa of Subinso Number Two, praised the project and thanked the MP for the initiative. However, she pointed out that despite the town's contributions to socio-economic development, it still lagged in infrastructure and called on the government to establish a Technical, Vocational and Education Training institute in the area.
Nana Benewaa II also highlighted the need for a police station, improved water systems, and toilet facilities. She urged the government to intervene in the completion of a polyclinic project in the area, underscoring the critical need for these developments.
