Alhaji Seidu Haruna, the Member of Parliament for Wenchi Constituency in the Bono Region has handed-over a-12-seater toilet facility to the Akete community in the constituency.The facility constructed at the cost of GHS 200,000 contained six-seater each for the male and female residents.In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the side-lines of the hand-over ceremony, the MP said he funded the project from his share of the MPs common fund.He said construction of the toilet was in line with his 'MP's smaller towns toilet initiative', which he had initiated aimed at providing standard toilets for the deprived communities in the constituency.Alhaji Haruna said proper sanitation remained critical, saying he had also built similar facilities at Branam and Akrobi to help eradicate open defecation in the area, saying the toilets there was no justification for the people to defecate in open space.He therefore advised the beneficiary communities to own the toilets and endeavour to maintain them.Alhaji Hakib Dauda, a former Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, expressed appreciation to the MP for the facilities and commended him for initiative which would greatly improve the sanitary condition of the area.Okyeame (linguist) Kwadwo Dadzie of the Akete community also thanked the MP describing the facility as one of the immediate needs of the community and appealed to the MP to extend electricity to the facility.Mr Usman Umar, the Assembly Member for the Area, also commended the MP for bringing the development of the electoral area to the next level and expressed the hope that he would do more to help alleviate the plight of the people.Source: Ghana News Agency
