Voting Ends at Major Polling Stations in Ablekuma North Rerun

Ablekuma north: Voting has ended in the Ablekuma North Constituency, where the Electoral Commission (EC) held parliamentary rerun elections at 19 polling stations on Thursday. Electoral officials at various centres were preparing to begin ballot counting, amid a strong security presence to ensure order and transparency, the Ghana News Agency observed during visits to selected polling stations.

According to Ghana News Agency, the exercise commenced smoothly in most centres, with a generally calm atmosphere. However, an isolated incident of violence at the St. Peter's polling station briefly disrupted the process. Security personnel intervened swiftly to restore calm, allowing voting to continue without further incident.

Dr Bossman Asare, Deputy Chair in Charge of Corporate Services at the EC, acknowledged the incident. "We are yet to receive an official report on what transpired," he stated, adding that security matters fall under the remit of the appropriate agencies.

The rerun, covering 19 polling stations, was necessitated by a protracted electoral dispute following the December 7, 2024, general elections, which left the constituency without a Member of Parliament for several months. The EC said the rerun seeks to restore full parliamentary representation and reinforce electoral integrity in the constituency. Counting and collation of results are currently underway.
