The Kpone Okpokli Youth Association (KOYA) has petitioned the Kpone Traditional Council and Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA), to use a GHs 2 million donation from Tema Development Corporation (TDC) Ghana Limited to solve their perennial water issue. The TDC donated the money to the traditional council as part of the customer week celebration towards the construction of a community Centre at Kpone. The KOYA, however, demonstrated against the move to use the money for its intended purpose, as according to them, getting access to potable water has been a daunting task for them.Clad in red, they held placards, some of which have the inscriptions, 'Kpone needs flow of pipe-borne water,' 'Use the TDC money to solve the Kpone water issue, not for the community center,' and 'Kpone needs flow of pipe-borne water,' among others, to pressure the authorities to address the long-standing water issue.Mr Emmanuel Clifford Anum-Doku, the President of KOYA, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the Kpone township had struggled with water scarcity for about 20 years, a situation that had compelled them to rely on expensive private suppliers for survival.Mr Anum-Doku explained that the traditional council had already captured a recreational centre in its projects that had been left uncompleted for years, suggesting that part of the money could be used to complete it.'There is an existing recreational centre in the building of the traditional council; they should repair and finish it; that one has to be completed before any other thing,' he stated. He explained that it was very important for?authorities to consider the pressing needs of the community in their attempt to initiate developmental projects to properly benefit residents and natives. He mentioned that the challenge was affecting their local businesses and called for immediate action to restore reliable water supply in the various affected communities for the residents of Kpone to have safe water for their activities.Source: Ghana New s Agency
