KETA: Unidentified youth in Keta, Volta region, allegedly demolished part of a private building owned by Mr. Emmanuel Gemegah, the outgoing Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). The group accused the MCE of misappropriating reclaimed land designated for a sports complex by constructing a private residence instead.
According to Ghana News Agency, the armed youth targeted the reclaimed land at Adzido-Vodza near Emancipation Beach, demolishing structures and fence walls. The police intervened after receiving a tip-off, halting further demolition but failing to make any arrests.
Some youth, speaking anonymously to Ghana News Agency, alleged that the MCE's actions defy a case pending judgment in the Sogakope High Court, accusing him of contempt. They claimed Mr. Gemegah sold portions of the land, intended for municipal development, to party affiliates and family members for private use.
Earlier this year, another youth group reportedly confronted the MCE, demanding a halt to construction on the disputed land. Ghana News Agency's attempts to contact the MCE for comment were unsuccessful.
