Juapong: Staff of the Juapong District of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) under the Tema Regional Office of the company have been taken through a day's seminar on security and safety to enhance their fieldwork. The seminar, management noted, was necessitated by some threats faced by the field workers of the utility service provider.
According to Ghana News Agency, Chief Inspector Eugene Osafo Obiri, Station Officer for the Frankadua Police Station, interacted with the ECG staff, encouraging them to improve upon their customer relations. He emphasized the importance of field workers knowing how to communicate effectively with clients. Chief Inspector Obiri noted that the manner in which workers explain their presence, set expectations for customers, and discuss possible sanctions could potentially lead to anger and violence.
He further advised the workers to remain vigilant, suggesting that they should scan their environments and retreat to report to their supervisors and the police if they sense any danger. Chief Inspector Obiri stressed the need for ECG staff to exercise patience and restraint to diffuse tension and ensure smooth operations. He also recommended that they always wear the company's prescribed attire and carry their staff identity cards to gain public trust, as some individuals impersonate ECG workers to extort money.
Mr. William Ahenkorah, the District Manager for ECG Juapong District and an engineer, urged the staff to educate customers on ECG's cashless services. He warned them against extorting money from customers in exchange for assistance with the cashless service. Mr. Ahenkorah cautioned staff to avoid actions that could violate company policies, reminding them that non-compliance could result in job termination if they are found accepting cash from customers.
