Officials of GoLOCAL, a Ukrainian Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), has paid a working visit to the Tema Port as part of its quest to use the seaport as a logistic hub for grain importation. The NGO aims at importing grain products from Eastern Europe for its sustainable projects in sub-Saharan Africa.Mr Ivan Lukachuk, the Ukrainian Head of Diplomatic Missions in Ghana, led the GoLOCAL official and their Ghanaian partners, to have a meeting with the Director of Tema Port, to explore the potential of a collaboration with the facility.Mr Lukachuk said they recognised that Ghana could be a very prospective place for their activities, as it was a developing market very much like that of Ukraine. He added that their partners from the USA and Germany were also working in Ghana, so they would like to leverage these connections and use them in bilateral Ukrainian- Ghanaian projects among others.Mrs Sandra Opoku, the Director of the Port of Tema, welcomed the move to use the port for food importation, as f ar as it fell within the laws of the country and did not infringe on national security. She advised them to consider the possibility of meeting the requirement to establish within the Free Zone Enclave in Tema for manufacturing. She said that would give them an advantage due to the proximity of the Port of Tema to the enclave.Source: Ghana News Agency
